New Playground Markings at the Village Site!

We have recently been awarded a Physical Activity Grant from Education Development Services  to develop our school yard with playground markings. Here are some of the many benefits of the markings.

Outdoor Classroom –  These playground games can be used as teaching aids for use in the outdoor classroom playground as well as during play times and break times where the children use their imagination to make up their own games.  Physical literacy is the ability to use a range of fundamental movement skills in a competent manner, with the capacity to apply them with confidence in a range of settings that can lead to sustained involvement in sport and physical activity.

Physical Literacy – Physically literate children will be able to perform a range of fundamental movement skills e.g. hop, climb or catch at levels of agility, balance and coordination appropriate to their capabilities. A child’s movement confidence will develop as they become more competent in performing these skills.

Fun – We believe that these marking will give children more chances to much more fun during break and lunchtime!

Have a look at our before and after pictures showing how much the children are enjoying their new outdoor environment!

We are also aiming to build up our links to local sports clubs by providing our pupils information on the various sports clubs they can join.  We aim to share our sporting news every term via our Sherburn Sport newsletter  as well our on our school website.
